Wasps are a common summer pest in the Hampton Roads area. Most nests are found hanging off of trees, on roofs, or dug into the ground and can be identified by the honey comb shape openings that allow the bugs to enter and exit. Ticks are very common in this area. They may carry dangerous diseases including Lime Disease. Tick control is especially challenging because of the incidence of animals carrying them in through your yard as they pass by. Hampton Roads has been experiencing an increase in roof rats. They can climb on practically any surface and can eat through almost anything, including concrete. Once they enter a home, they can cause damage to electrical equipment and wiring. They are commonly found in attics, to nest and store their food. If you notice dropping in your attic or crawl space, that is a definite indicator of a rat problem. Roof rats are normally nocturnal, so if you hear activity at night it is most likely roof rats.
